San Diego is the epitome of Southern California style.

This cosmopolitan city is at once lively and laid-back, with world-class attractions complemented by inviting beaches and a never-ending vacation vibe. It’s in this picturesque city that one famous name attracts visitors from all over the world: SeaWorld San Diego. In its 50-plus years of operation, SeaWorld has evolved to include thrill rides, animal encounters and the nearby Aquatica water park. Its ocean-themed lineup continues to expand, and there’s even more to see and do than ever.

Ocean Explorer: Deep Sea Discovery

Though they cover most of the earth’s surface, the oceans are the planet’s greatest unexplored territory. That’s why SeaWorld’s signature Ocean Explorer attraction takes you beneath the waves to the fascinating and unusual world of the deep sea. Embark on Submarine Quest, a three-minute ride on a mini submarine (complete with a digital navigation panel) to learn about ocean ecosystems and marine conservation projects. Interactive aquariums invite you to get up-close and personal with aquatic creatures, such as moray eels, a giant Pacific octopus and a Japanese spider crab – the world’s largest arthropod with an impressive claw span of more than two and a half meters. Kids will also love the play area and five family-friendly rides, including a jellyfish-themed swing ride.

Orca Encounter: Protecting an Ocean Giant

Take a step closer to the ocean’s mightiest predator at the Orca Encounter. SeaWorld’s majestic whales are highlighted in this documentary-style presentation featuring a three-story, first-of-its-kind infinity screen and a natural coastline setting. The experience pairs a live orca presentation with this augmented digital environment, immersing you in the mysterious world of the killer whale and offering an intimate look at the animals' social dynamics, communication patterns and hunting techniques. As part of SeaWorld’s commitment to protecting ocean life, the Orca Encounter also fosters an appreciation for the interconnectedness of humans and these impressive ocean mammals.

Electric Ocean: Light Up the Night

Be sure to check out other SeaWorld favorites before the day is through: walk through the viewing tunnel at Shark Encounter, ride the thrilling Manta coaster, play with the kids at Sesame Street Bay of Play and get an outstanding bird’s-eye view of San Diego from the Skytower. As the sun sets, the park’s Electric Ocean light display comes to life. This isn’t just a stationary light show, either. Every corner of the park dazzles with lights inspired by the bioluminescence found in nature. It’s as close to walking underwater as you can get on dry land! Music and pathway entertainment lead you on the way out to enjoy the rest of your San Diego visit.
